Hospitality success has no secret ingredient

When I first started out, I was under the impression that there was a secret ingredient to success in the trade. I thought people landed amazing roles through clandestine routes and that I was never destined for that level of achievement.

Things started to change for me during my graduate year at Gleneagles. I had a fantastic line manager who worked me hard while teaching me everything he knew. He was honest and transparent about his own journey, and he let me in on the real secret - no one is successful all alone. Everyone has had help and support at one point, and it's okay to lean on others.

To be at the top of your game, you have to take bits and pieces from others, constantly grow and develop your own style, explore your way of doing things while being open to change, not be afraid of criticism and seize opportunities that come your way.

I never forgot that lesson, and as my career progressed, I made sure that I offered guidance and support to my team, in order to allow them to grow and thrive.

I have made a career based on developing young talent, mentoring and coaching. I never let myself forget that success is a team effort.
