I wish I had known the potential for myself in the industry I was about to embark on back in 1993.
Maybe I hadn’t noticed that there were opportunities for a bartender outside of the tip pool, like creating original recipes, being an artist isn’t limited to drawing, painting and sculpting. It was a craft, a job and most importantly a way to make money without working 9 to 5.
People were always having fun when you went to work, but it seemed like the only way up was to own your own establishment. Now bartending and beverage culture in general is so much more. You can choose your path much easier, there’s more to offer a bartender with a bright future without changing careers. Stay the course, express your creativity and people will notice. I wish I had known then what I know now! And social media helps...a lot!
