Hospitality Influencers

I think the industry suffers from a high turnover of staff in many companies (not all) because there isn't enough emphasis on people and their development.

The hospitality industry is growing day after day due to many reasons that are a real lifter for hotelier around the globe. It is a very attractive industry where you can simply enjoy working and growing. Although there's competition and high a turnover, you can grow fast and reach your aims if you are ambitious and you persevere.

At that point in life, I didn't know what I was getting into. The management trainees role gave me an idea of the different departments, but I was greatly influenced by my leaders feedback on the different areas.

A high turnover rate in the industry has always been a problem, but maybe not always for the same reasons...

No shows would once make up only 5% of bookings but could now be as high as 15% causing a major negative effect across the industry.

Firstly, I have to say I dislike TripAdvisor with a passion, and have done for many years. A little controversial I know, but that's just the way it is. I do, however, agree that restaurants need to engage with it or suffer the consequences.

If you take care of your team they will take care of your business!!!

Your staff need development, they need engagement, they need to be listened to, they need to be motivated. We need to find the correct balance between mothering them and actually training and coaching them so they can learn and develop.

Encouraging staff to form bonds in and outside of work creates a team atmosphere and can assist with staff retention.
